Before we ever sought God, the Father desired us. His will was not merely to forgive our sins but to give us new life. Through the “Word of truth” fulfilled in Jesus Christ, we are born again into a new creation. Just as God’s Word called light out of darkness in Genesis, His living Word now calls new life out of the darkness of sin.
James then describes believers as “firstfruits.” In Israel, the firstfruits of the harvest were offered to God as a sign that the full harvest was still to come. In the same way, Christians are called to be the first visible signs of God’s renewed creation. Our lives should reveal what humanity looks like when transformed by grace, marked by love, mercy, humility, and hope.
Each day offers us the opportunity to live as those firstfruits. Through our words, our actions, and our witness, others should catch a glimpse of the Kingdom that Christ has already begun. We are not simply recipients of God’s grace; we are living evidence that His work of making all things new has already started.
God did not simply create you to exist; He willed to recreate you in Christ. Live each day as one of His firstfruits, allowing your life to become a visible promise of the harvest that is still to come.
