Before we ever thought about searching for God, God was already seeking us. This is one of the great themes running throughout salvation history. Abraham did not simply decide one day to find God. God called Abraham. Moses did not initiate the encounter at the burning bush; God called him by name. The prophets did not appoint themselves to speak for God; God sought them out. The disciples did not merely discover Jesus; Jesus came to them and said, “Come, follow me.”
To be chosen by God does not mean that we are better than anyone else. It means that we are loved and invited. God’s choice is not simply a privilege; it is an invitation into relationship and mission.
Perhaps, then, the question for us is not, “Where can I find God?” but “Where is God already finding me?”
Sometimes we imagine that encountering God requires escaping ordinary life. Yet the biblical story tells us something different. God continually enters ordinary human experience and calls people there. And we are called in the midst of our own lives.
The God who seeks us does not necessarily wait for us inside a church building. He seeks us wherever we are. He may be finding us in our ordinary circumstances; in our relationships, our joys, our struggles, our questions, and even our failures. God is not waiting for us to become perfect before He comes looking for us.
And when we finally recognize His presence, our response is simply: “Yes, Lord. You have found me. I am yours.”
