The disciples have returned from their mission with joy. They have witnessed the power of Jesus’ name and discovered that they can participate in his work. In this moment, Jesus rejoices in the Holy Spirit and praises the Father for revealing divine mysteries to the childlike. Then he speaks these words about the knowledge shared between Father and Son.
Human relationships offer a small analogy. We may know someone through years of friendship and still discover new depths in that person. Love draws us closer without reducing the person to everything we have already understood.
With Jesus, that mystery is infinitely greater. We can learn his words, study his actions, and confess his identity. Yet knowing him also asks us to listen, trust, and remain open to what he reveals.
Throughout Israel’s story, God formed a people and taught them to recognize his faithfulness. In Jesus, that unfolding revelation reaches a personal fullness: the eternal Son lives among us and shows us the Father through his words and works.
