Every time we pray, “Open our heart, O Lord, to listen to the words of your Son,” we ask for far more than the ability to hear. We ask for the grace to be changed. Jesus spoke to crowds, disciples, and even His enemies, yet not every heart received His message. The difference was never in His words—it was in the openness of those who listened.
At every Mass, Christ still speaks through the Scriptures. His words comfort us, challenge us, forgive us, and call us to deeper discipleship. Like Lydia, whose heart the Lord opened to receive the Gospel, we pray that God will prepare our hearts to welcome His living Word.
An open heart does more than hear—it responds. The Word we receive becomes the life we live. As we leave the Eucharist, we are sent into the world to become living witnesses of the Gospel we have heard.
We ask God not merely to help us hear Christ’s words, but to open our hearts so that His words may take root, change us, and bear fruit in our lives.
