When Jesus says, “Blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear,” He is speaking of more than physical sight and hearing. Many people saw His miracles and heard His teaching, yet remained unchanged. Others recognized in Him the very presence of God.
How does this happen?
– Knowledge teaches us about Christ.
– Experience allows us to walk with Christ.
– The Holy Spirit enables us to recognize Christ.
These are not competing paths but a single journey of discipleship. Study prepares the mind, experience opens the heart, and grace illuminates both. Through the Spirit, Scripture becomes God’s living Word, the Eucharist becomes Christ’s true Presence, and ordinary moments become encounters with divine love.
To have “eyes that see” is to view the world through the eyes of faith. To have “ears that hear” is to listen with a heart shaped by the Holy Spirit. This is the blessing Jesus offers every disciple, not merely the ability to observe Him, but the grace to know Him, follow Him, and discover His presence in every part of life.
